05 Tribute 3.0L - P0183?, P0303, P0171

Postby timwolfplace » Mon May 15, 2017 1:15 pm

:?: I am at a loss.... Very interesting, A 05 Mazda tribute 3.0L listing a P0183 code (Fuel temp sensor circut). Upon research, this tribute has NO fuel temp sensor. The code may be set by intake temp sensor, there is NO intake temp sensor. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Maybe a bad PCM?

First is this a flex fuel engine?
That would explain the p0183. let us know.

The P0171 and p0303 are common issues BUT the flex code would be first... meanwhile you could check for vacuum leak @#3 cylinder, maybe add a can of injector cleaner (seafoam or techron) if injector is partially restricted. As we look into flex fuel code.

It's not a Fex fuel either.

search leads to FLEX fuel issue IDK - At this time I would rescan, and look at freeze frame for that code p0183-
OR a hail mary - erase codes perform drive cycle and reevaluate.

This is a thought: Since the code also talks about a possible IAT sensor issue, and there is no separate IAT sensor, could it be the MAF sensor. I have read that if the MAF sensor has 5 wires (which this one does), the IAT sensor may be incorperated with the MAF sensor. Have you heard the same?

I strongly recommend you regroup, check all info model year, engine etc, and rescan for codes.
That is a fast ck before reassigning the code to a unlikely component.
P018x is not the IAT series it is assigned fuel system.

Another thought - post the 8th character of vin # might help ID engine series.

After looking into this code - advise if this attachment is correct
as there may be a fuel temp sensor

I'll be darned, that's correct. So I assume the temp sensor is part of the pressure sensor. Cool beans. I figured out that the p0303 code was due to a bad wire on the coil harness. The tab that holds the corrector on was broken so the person that had the vehicle before us, used a zip-tie arround the coil and the connector. The zip-tie was tightened so much that it broke the wire inside.

HOPEFULLY replacing the wire connector and the fuel pressure sensor will fix our problem.
Will post back if problems are resolved.

Thanks SO much for the help,
Tim
