IV'E HEARD THE FUEL PUMPS ON THESE CAN BE A NIGHTMARE DUE TO A PLASTIC PIECE IN THEM, BUT COULD IT JUST BE THE MAF OR O2 SENSOR? HELP!
To get started - which engine, knowing that info can be more detailed to specific vehicle.
P0171* is a very common code - system is running lean.
P0496** EVAP Flow During Non-Purge Condition- this is likely your issue as it would cause above code and poor engine performance - rough idle, stumbling and stalls.
I would look at purge valve, sticking open causing A vacuum leak.
The vacuum leak would set p0171.
some Thoughts -
do not continue to refuel 'top off" the tank, this can cause Purge valve issues.
Use correct parts, AC Delco - the cheap aftermarket parts are problematic.
PS - all caps are seen as YELLING in the forums - be mad but use lower case
Lol Sorry about the all caps, I have to use them at work and didn't even think about it.
I'm just relaying all the stuff she's had done in the last month, so ya'll have a clear picture. I told her to have someone check the purge valve, she hasn't done that yet. Thank you so much for the quick response!! I'll post an update when I know something... She also pulled the MAF sensor just to check it, looks brand new, so don't think that's the issue.
I am guessing you do not have a scan tool -
We could unplug purge, confirm no vacuum thru purge to EVAP system - drive under conditions that normally cause the stall.
The EVAP system (purge*) would code and hopefully the no stalling would isolate a purge valve issue. Would check valve seating and wiring.
* P0443, p0444, p0445
Is the "purge valve" we're referring to the one by the tank or the one in the back of the engine (I tried to look up part locations, but got two different photos and the names aren't exact so I'm not sure what I'm looking at)
