Hey gang.

I recently bought a 1999 Mitsubishi Galant. I live in Jamaica so our cars are not required to have any diagnostic equipment at all, let alone OBDII specifically. As such, my 1999, though it has the OBDII connector, does not use OBDII software. I have an Actron OBDII code reader that I hooked up to the car but got "NO SIGNAL" from it. The car isn't throwing any codes at the moment but I was just planning on checking to see if there were any stored ones. Can you guys tell me where I might be able to get my hands on a reader for it, or how I may flash the codes? Any information at all would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Have you checked all the fuses, especially the cigar/cigarette lighter?

All fuses are fine actually. The only things not working in the car are the fog lamps which are missing their relay. I also received the same readout when I connected it to a local spec 2000 Galant VR (2.5L V6) recently. I know the reader is working because I checked it with my friend's 2002 Honda Integra.

So is the plug actually plugged in? any power or ground on any pins to start? There's some that should be common to all cars with that plug! Check for any power or grounds to the plug for starters. You may have no issue the code reader at all but an incompatability issue!

Sorry for the long delay. For the benefit of those who may encounter this problem, here is the solution. Even though these cars use an OBDII connector, they are not OBDII compliant. The software is Mitsubishi specific and requires quite expensive readers to interpret. Thanks to the guys who tried to help.
