ended up googling P1762 for '02 dodge dakota. took me to a site where they had tons of answers ranging from a simple "clean electrical conections" to changing plungers/sensors as well as dropping pan ,change filters,oil and band tighting. Pretty intense stuff.

I did the simplist one(clean connections on trans).engine light is gone, and shifting is consistant. It's been 300 miles since with no prob's. Thanks for the concern. Now I need manicure. Hubby hates oily fingernails.LOL!!!
