Hello, My 1999 Taurus has set a P0500 code in memory.
The Speedometer is inoperative and the Transmission is erratic.
I need the test sequence and values for the speed sensor.
The car build date is: 02/99, Vin #is 1FAFP53S7XA207592,
TR: X.

can't get you the test sequences but have heard that VSS (vehicle speed sensors) are a common failure item. Possible wiring issues at some connectors as well but I'd inspect the sensor and wiring first, If you have a scan tool that will read the vehicle speed as you're driving then it should be easier to troubleshoot although not mandatory

good luck and keep me postted

Jeff

Jeff,
You were right! I removed and replaced the speed sensor [it didnot turn freely] and all is back to normal.
This vehicle is rust free so I keep it off the road from Dec. to May. I do start it in the winter on occasion to charge the battery etc.
The Speed Sensor is located just above the right bank CAT and is subject to a bit of heat [has a foil heat insulator around it]. My suspicion is that it got too much heat and failed.
Thanks for the recomendation,
Karl
