I got a service engine soon light on my 2001 mustang 3.8 last week. I pulled into NAPA and the counter tech read the code. It showed to be a P0401. I checked and cleaned all the hoses coming off the EGR valve. I drove a short distance and the light reappeared. I replaced the EGR valve. I drove a short distance and the light reappeared again. I stopped by NAPA and there suggestion was to replace the purge flow sensor ($25.00). If that doesnt do it they suggest the pressure feed back sensor ($49.00). Does this sound like good advice? Any other ideas on what could be causing the light to keep reappearing. I have been re setting it after each attempt to correct the problem by taking the battery cable loose for five minutes or so and then reattaching it.

Thanks
Steve

Go to ford and get the DPFE sensor and this will be solved. Do not buy it from napa they do not last.

As well check the forums under dpfe, egr, 401 etc under fords and read about the plugged prts etc that cause repeat failures of that part and code. And yes engine parts and sensors from the zone are junk. Only go there to borrow the code reader. Leave the engine management parts to the dealer when at all possible. Or at least a better supllier then the Zone.

I went to a parts store that sells only OEM parts. I purchased a motorcraft DPFE sensor (like you advised). It took 30 seconds to install it. I disconnected the negative battery cable and left it off for five minutes. The code cleared. I drove the car for fifty miles or so. The service engine light has'nt reappeared. It looks like the sensor was the problem. I appreciate so much the advice. Hope that i can return the favor someday.

Thanks
Steve

It's called "Full Service Automotive". It sounds like a service shop but it's a parts store. Several of them in San Antonio, Texas
