I have a '96 4x4 GMC 350/Auto - STOCK. The OBD is holding a P1406 error code. I would like to know what it is and how to fix it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

P1406 is an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve position sensor-range performance code

What it means is that the pcm is not seeing the egr valve pintle change positions when it's commanded

Probaly you just require a new one, Some mechanics try cleanning them first but it doesn't always fix them. Can also be a wiring problem to or from the pcm but not as likely. I think GM had a software update that
preventted the new valves from carbonning up. It cycled the valve with the key off, engine off to keep anything form sticking to it as it cooled
Might be worth checking into

Hope this helps

Good luck and keep me postted

Jeff
