I have a dodge ram 1500 1996 2WD/318. P0441 code. I've replaced the purge solenoid and cracked hoses and connectors. I've blown out the lines and little black pellets come out of the hoses. I've replaced the gas cap also. Does the charcoal canister have to have the charcoal pellets in it to work? Will the purge system continue to register the fault if there's no charcoal?
Thanks
Steve

If you have pellets in the lines then the canister has came apart. Replace the canister and make sure all the lines are clean. Also make sure you install the purge valve correctly. It has the word up or top stamped on it.

you probably have a failled leak dection pump assy, The pellets are likely material from the cannister that has deteriorated from overfilling the tank.
