hey all...ok im at a loss. normally i can diagnose alot of things. BUT this has me baffled. i have done everything to remedy this that i can think of. BUT awhile ago my 01 Grand Am GT threw me a P0442 code. so i went and tightened the gas cap. came back on. then i bought a new cap....after about 3 days it came back on after clearing it. changed the plugs and wires, checked the purge valve...cleared it....came back on after a few days again...NOW at idle it give a slight hesitation. im tryin to avoid the fuel filter cuz i just flat out hate doin those. but if that may be the problem then ugh gotta do it. BUUUUTTTT if theres any other advice that i can get before covering myself in gas...then please inform me. thanks guys!!

Check the vent solenoid back by the gas tank, way more common then the purge solenoid under the hood, if not then you're going to need a smoke test to check the cannister and the remainder of the system for leaks. A tuneup won't cure that code but depending on what was done it may explain you're hesitiation

well i threw in high performance plugs and wires. nothing major. was done in the exact same kind of car owned by a friend and he has no problems. so i dont know..it was acting like it was hesitating even before i did the tune up. and it dont take a rocket scientist to do it..LOL. but i will check what u said and see what happens. then may have to get a smoke test done. thanks.

I will say this. I have this error on my 2003 Chevy Trail Blazer. Gets better gas millage when running Synthetic Oil then conventional oil. gas consumption has not decreased nor has engine performance. I am a certified Emissions inspector. And Ill tell you that simple error codes such as this are not detrimental to your motor manufacturers put far to many sensors than needed on motors these days simply because the green fanatics have convinced the government that they are necessary. this in turn creates an entire industry or section thereof.

People are now faced with taking their vehicles in to the Emissions inspection station (A product of the green loving leftists in our government) in order to register their vehicles (A product of the government trying to generate more tax revenue from its citizens). These systems are designed not to protect the environment but to generate revenue for the government and to further limit the rights of the citizens. I will continue to believe this until someone can provide definitive proof that the united states driving vehicles is producing greenhouse emissions at levels enough to cause man made global warming.

Joe citizen takes his relatively new well running mid size family SUV in to get his required emissions test (required by the government). His vehicle does not pass the test. The month before he has to renew the registration for the vehicle paying the taxes and tag fees (Another government regulation). He is pressing to make the monthly payments on the vehicle keep the mortgage paid and the lights on keep his kids fed clothed and get to work on a daily basis. He takes his vehicle to the shop who quotes him a $300 fee to fix the problem. He doesn't know any better, after all we are in a service based industry not a manufacturing / industrial one that is stagnating under the fact that when people have less money they pay less for services. Needless to say he can not afford to pay the 300 Bucks until the next payday. the next payday does not come until after his registration is due. Now he not only has to worry about getting his vehicle fixed (Mandated by the government) but he has to worry about getting a ticket by the local law enforcement agency targeting late tag registration in order to generate revenue for that municipality (Another government mandate) he has to worry about getting a ticket.

Ladies and gentlemen this is what happens when government gets too involved with our lives. I could go on and on and on. I believe in protecting the environment. But I also believe that mother Nature has a way of putting us all in our place as well. I love the outdoors and what nature has to offer. The simple matter of fact is that the government is responsible for these requirements and OBD II and in the next few years OBD III. with the advent of Onstar the possibilities are endless for government control over a simple thing as a personally owned mode of transportation one that is required for an individual to get to and from work in order to help the economy prosper and provide a future for his family. Socialism is here it lives and breathes in the United States it only grows larger and more and more a part of our lives. It happened without any of us even realizing it because we were all asleep at the wheel.
