Have a 98 VW cabriolet with Check engine light on - Code reads P1128 which is "Long Term Fuel Trim mult., Bank 1 system too lean." I took it to Autozone who ran it and received that code. One of their solution suggestions was an MAF failure or potentially low fuel pressure. I cleaned the MAF with electronic parts cleaner (did not appear too oily) and still have the same issue. Any suggestions? or what the heck is the Long Term Fuel Trim mult., Bank 1.

Thanks

you could have a vacuum leak or a bad air flow meter. sometimes cleaning dont fix.

 I have a 2000 jetta GL 2.0 and I just brought it to a vw dealer to have the ecm updated (it was a recall). It ran fine until the day I picked it up from the dealer. Now I have a P1128 code and it also said "manufacturer control fuel air metering". Does anyone know if this could be related to the work they did at the dealer or if it is just one heck of a coincidence? (They were also supposed to replace the O2 sensor but I don't think they did) It ran poorly when I got it back, bucking and just acting like it had no power until yesterday when it just wouldn't stay running. It will start but it just shuts off, notstalls, shuts off if you don't keep your foot on the gas, but you can smell gas when it does run. Anybody know what is up?

I know it needs to go back but they are saying "it doesn't sound like anything we did". I had it towed in yesterday and they had all afternoon yesterday and all today to check it out and when I called them (twice) today they said hopefully they could get it in this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Hopefully? What the hell? First they screwed it up, and then I had to have it towed in, and now it's been there for more than 24 hours without even being hooked up to an obdII, and they might be able to get it in by tomorrow? I've been nice up to this point but if things aren't taken care of by tomorrow I won't be, I hate to do it but I will mention calling the better business bureau and get this taken care of.

You need a new dealer if their first response is "that doesn't sound like anything we did".
