In reference to my post below.... 1997 Nissan Sentra P0440 & P0446.... Was looking around and still can't find the EVAP canister but noticed a hose hanging disconnected and can't for the life of me see where it is supposed to re-connect. One end of it is connected to a fitting on top of the bell housing of the transmission. The disconneted end has a U-shaped metal fitting on the end of it so I know it must connect to a hose that is rubber but I can't find it. Any help you can provide will be appreciated. Could this be my problem? Thanks.

The line with the metal elbow is the vent for the transmission it should be open.. the canister should under the left rear corner. p0440 is letting you know that you have a evap problem and the p0446 is a problem with the vent valve circuit. the vent valve is mounted on the canister. easy to check..when open it should pass air when closed it should not..the valve is normally open and when energized its closed.

Thanks asecmt for the info. I found the EVAP cannister but the valve is not mounted to it. I read there is a purge valve, purge solenoid, etc. Which one am I looking for and how can I locate it? I do have a manual that I got on-line yet the locations it points out are not correct. They must have made some production line changes on this model. Is there someway to trace a line from the EVAP cannister to the correct valve?
