G'day,
I own a 2000 model Land Rover Discovery TD5. There is an OBD socket below the dash board.
I purchased an Elmscan 5 USB interface which only worked partially, the first 5 codes out of approx 100. The Elmscan would be a very useful device on OBD II compliant vehicles and the people are very helpful. They have agreed to refund my money ($129 US) upon the return of the device.
This leaves me with two problems:-
1. Can anyone describe a cable or interface that converts the signal levels in the OBD connector to RS232 or USB? I do not want a device like the ELMSCAN which interprets the codes, merely a voltage converter.
2. Is there software available (source in C preferable) that I can use to converse with the OBD processors via the connector?
Regards, Terry

G'day,
Thank you for your suggestion. It may work on my Australian model but I am not certain. I have asked the supplier for confirmation.
The other problem is the price..... $2,000!!!
Why is this so expensive? I may be forced to go down the make it myself track.
I have kept the OBD II <-> RS2323 cable that came with the ELMSCAN 5 to carry oiut some preliminary experiments. Can you tell me the voltage levels that I can expect from the OBD II connector? Baud rates would help also.
