Hi everyone, I have a 91 Mitsu Mighty Max PU and the problem that just recently happen was that the Stick shift has come off of the transmission. Now my truck has a 5 speed standard tranny and I just replaced the clutch. The problem that I am having is that the stick itself has three holes that bolt it down to the transmission but I have been dreading for some time that it would break off only because the previous owner drove it with a bad clutch and just speed shifted until it got so loose that it broke. Now when I got to it I rebored the holes and put in some plugs and retapped them in order to put some new bolts in it but that only held for 2 years. Now what I plan to do is to rebore again and replug and retap the holes but the problem is that one of the holes is broken and replugging is out of the question. Is it posible to obtain an after market shifter and add it to the tranny or should I look into a machine shop and ask them to fix that hole. The problem with that is that I have a very limited budget and the only thing is that I can probably get a steel plate and bend it to fit the tranny and drill and tap it to the specs of the original shifter then drill and tap the sides of the tranny in order to bolt the plate on the tranny but my concern is the inner mechanics of the tranny and I don't want to affect anything in there. Well, what I need is some suggestions or advice on this process. I do have the tools I need in my garage so no idea is to crazy, plus I been looking forward to using my old drill press that I got at a surplus sale 3 years ago. Thank you for all your help in advance. :P

Did you try asking the dealer, they might be able to give you a much better idea than anybody else.

The solution they recomended is to rethread the hole by drilling and tapping it then reinstall the shifter.
