I have a 1999 olds Alero with a 3.4 engine I have a code of p0113 which says air temp sensor high output. I replaced the airtemp sensor and the light came back on after the first cycle. can anyone give me some more info .where do I go from here
Have you checked the reference voltage supplied to the sensor? The sensor, a thermistor, vaiably reduces the voltage and the computer measures the subsequent voltage drop across another resistor in the ecm. Most vehicles use a reference voltage of around 5 volts, my f-150 is 4.7v. If there is a high reference voltage then you will certainly have an error. Also... check that the sensor is well grounded, as is the engine and the battery (many many failures and parts replaced in err can be linked to just a simple bad battery cable resistance!)..... the reference signal goes thru the sensor to ground. A poor connection will alter the expected voltage drop into a reportable failure code.
I hope that helps... oh check the resistance across the sensor terminals with the wires off. look for 800-2500 ohms in a cold vehicle in a cool environment. Get back to me if you'd like.
