I can assure anyone with any doubts about this inteface kit that it works spot on.
After a little confusion with DOS I have a fully working scanner!.
It is a very usefull piece of kit that does much more than stand alone scanners.
It shows an excellent array of live information and fault codes, has actuator tests and enables the user to adjust certain values on some models of car eg Idle speed .
I would recommend anyone who is thinking of buying one to get one and not be put off by the DOS based software because when set up properly it works really well and is easy to use.
I have also experimented with DOSbox on WIN XP and the software seems to run well, it is also possible to configure DOSbox to use serial ports so hopefully this will be a way round the 2x com port/ dos issue on modern laptops, I will post my results when I have tried it on a laptop and if anyone else has already done it this way please add your info to this thread.
If I can help anybody out with setting up etc I am happy to give you advice and I also have also collected quite a lot of uniscan related software so just ask.

Hi battlebus, what operating system are you using eg Win XP?.
The uniscan software will not run in windows of any variety.
I use this software on a PC with Win98SE but to use Uniscan I have to press CTRL when booting up which displays a boot options menu, choose command prompt.
You then get a C:\ prompt in DOS.
you need to specify the location of the folder containg your visa software eg. C:\CD visa or C:\CD windows\desktop\visa
Then type DBCODICI or VSTART at the prompt ,one of these should work.
You can then use the software properly.
That all sounds complicated but its not that bad and once you get it set up im sure you will be as impressed with the Uniscan as I am.
The interface has already paid for its self within 2 weeks and every diagnosis so far has been 100% correct and easy to understand.

Note that you cannot boot XP into DOS at all as XP is not DOS based.

I am currently trying to get the Uniscan up and running in XP using a DOS emulator called DOSBOX v0.65 which supports up to four serial ports.
So far the software is running fine on DOSBOX but I have yet to test the hardware with this setup using USB-COM Port leads configured as COM1 and COM2.

If you need more help just give me a shout.

Thanks for your help, I’ve just got myself and old windows 98 pc from a mate, but I’m still having problems when I try and connect to a car e.g.(opel vectra b 1.8) all I get is connect ecu then check power supply. The visa 1.83 box has a power light and the k-line light is flashing away. But I still get this message connect ecu then check power

Many thanks

Check the settings in the Uniscan software and make sure that it is configured to COM1 and COM2, also go into control panel on your pc in windows then go into system then go into device manager.
You will see a list of installed hardware, click the ports tab and make sure you have communications port 1 and 2 showing.
If you get stuck go into your uniscan settings and have a look then let me know what com port config you have.

Good luck
Lee

Hi there, try and change your setup as follows:

(Com1 3f8 irq 4)___(Com 2 2f8 irq 7)

This should work for you.

Best Regards
Lee
