Hi,
I am having 1998 mazda protege. It is showing the engine check light.
I have shown it to mechanic. He found the problem with sensor and code is P0140. He erased the code and confirmed it's ok. But i got the same problem once again.
Can you pls let me know what could be the exact problem? and what could be the severity if i won't change the senser?
pls reply me.

Thanks,
chandra

If the code was erased and it came back then it's not okay! The code po140 is related to the 02 sensor on Bank 1 sensor #2 having not enougfh activity, which means it 's too lazy and not switching fast enough or the pcm is not seeing the signal that the sensor is generating or something similar. Was the 02 sensor replaced ? How was it testted ? The severity of not changing the sesnor it the car is now creating higher emissions, fuel mileage might be decreased, can cause damage to the converter, etc! why would you not want to fix it?
