2001 626 4 cyl. code P0421

I'm getting P0421 on an '01 626 4 cyl...Cat Converter. I'm told that this is the converter mounted on the front of the engine, not the one underneath the car. Has anyone had experience with this? That's an expensive piece & I want to make sure its the right thing to do before I buy it. Thanks.

check to see if you still have warranty left, some converters are covered for up to 8 years

I think it's 8 yrs/80k miles...of course I have 84k

I think it's quite a common failure item on some Mazda's , approach them about goodwilling it or even paying for the part and you pay for the labour.
you're right that it's probably an expensive part. I know at the dealer we work at we goodwill quite a bit for good customers.
