Hello all I am new to the forum and was looking for some help. I have a 1996 Ford Windstar 3.8L with Codes P0151,P1151 and a misfire on #4. I have changed the Plugs and wires and am still having trouble. The check engine comes on at first then while driving van I will feel a misfire and then the check engine light will start blinking. I can feel the misfire go away and come back sometimes within a few seconds to a few min. What do you think the problem can be? I am thinking of changing coil pack, EGR valve,O2 sensor, but would like to know if anyone has had the same problem or if anyone can help before I change all.

Thank you,
Joe

likely a vacuum leak around the intake manifold, very common problems,
tun-up not a bad idea if it's overdue

good luck and keep us postted

I will try to find a leak, could it be the egr gasket leaking? Or even the EGR itself leaking.

Thank you,
Joe

leaking gasket is possible but doubtful, pcv valve and the hoses to it are another common spot but like I said on windstars there are lots of posts on several forums about vaccum leaks from the intake giving you all kinds of codes

check it out and let us know

Well I checked all vac. lines and found no leaks but when I was looking and listening I could hear what sounded like a vac. leak around the EGR valve area. Could it be the egr and gasket or intake? I know without you hearing it you wouldn't know for sure but when I put my hand in between the intake and egr the sound didn't go away but in front of egr it was muffled. What do you think?

Thank you,
Joe

spray some brake kleen or throttle body cleaner right where you hear the leak and if the rpm changes then you have a leak, Not ruling out an EGR
but odds still point towards the intake, you can try an EGR and or gasket
but I'm not a fan of throwing parts at something although the egr is probably the cheaper route to try

good luck and keep us postted

Well no change in rpm's when sprayed with break cleaner. I am still looking. Could you tell me where bank 2 sensor 1 might be? I am trying to check everything before buying parts because I don't like to buy parts that I don't need either.

Thank you,
joe

Thank you so much, so it is on the back side of the motor near the fire wall? This will help. I am not going to change yet just make sure there are no broken wires.

Thank you,
Joe

Problem solved (so far) Thank you Jeff for all your help. I found no vac. leaks but what I did was take off the Plenum to check gaskets and fuel injectors. What I fould was 5 out of the 6 exaust prots were 90 to 99% pluged with carbon. (the little hole in the exaust port) and 3 of the 6 injectors were dirty of not pluged as well. So I cleaned the injectors with carb cleaner and unpluged the exaust holes and replaced Plenum gaskets. I am going to keep my fingers crossed. Thank you again for your help.

Joe

yeah I've seen tsbs on that problem online and on other posts but always with egr codes, I think they're is a revised frt valve cover or something like that to cut down on carbonning

good luck and keep me postted
