Have a 97 Chev Motorhome on a p-32 chasis with 454. After running about one hour I will get a p0131 trouble like a clock. I have a scangauge onboard now so if I reset it will stay off for about 10 mins and come back on. If I do not reset after about another hour I will see a p0134 along with the p0131. Now if on a trip I stop ever 45 mins shut down and restart after 10 mins or so no trouble. I know that it is a bank 1 sensor 1 o2 low voltage/inactivity indication. Have the frozen data if needed. My questions are.

Does this sound like a bad o2 sensor?

Why only after an hour does it light?

Is there anything I should check to confirm?

Where would that sensor be located?

Thanks

Given the age of your vehicle, chances are it's a defective O2 sensor.

The PCM (computer) makes systems check every time you stsrt your vehicle. It takes time to do these checks and when a fault is detected, the CEL is illuminated. When you "reset" the PCM, along with erasing the code(s), you also erase the memory and force the PCM to perform the systems checks again.

Before condemning the sensor, check the wiring and connector for voltage, ground, continuity, etc.

This sensor is located on the Driver's side between the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter.

If you replace the sensor, get it from the dealership as aftermarket sensors may not be compatible with your PCM and you'll wind up changing them over and over.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks,

Will run down the wire/conector/voltage check hopefully it stays broke so its easier to find.

Any thought on why it takes an hour to come on and if you stop every 45 mins it will not come on.

Maybe it's staying within a certain temperature reading at less then 45 mins and after that time frame it heats up and goes open. Like Mohawk said it's most likely just a defective sensor. If it was a wire myself I'd think once it went open it would stay open
