I scanned my car, 1999 Honda Accord EX V6 and i got the P0402 codes but the scanner said that my catalytic converter was fine as well as my O2 sensor. I just replaced the EGR Valve this morning and had the O2 sensor replaced maybe at the beginning of this year. I really need to know what the problem is b/c my car won't pass inspection with the check engine light on. I need to know if i should get it cleaned out (egr) or if i should get a tune up. I just want to do the right thing so i can get it inspected and so my light will go off. Thanks to anyone who can help,

Nikki Johnson

I have a '99 Honda Odessey and have had the same issue. Unfortunately, there is a tube that feeds the EGR valve. Honda had a service bulletin on this and they would drill out this hole and make it a bit bigger and install a additional bigger tube. My van just went out of warranty and the service guy printed out the directions to do it myself. It really wasn't too terrible, but you have to have some confidence to rip apart the top of your engine (exhaust manifold). My original tube was so chockerblock full of goop there was no way any flow passed to EGR. I now have 150K on my van and I've cleaned out this tube twice...and need to do it again. You have to hand drill (no power) this hole out and I used solvent on many swabs to clean it out. Once I do this, and cancel out error code, problem goes away for another 30-40K miles. Biggest issue is pulling away throddle body to get Exhaust manifold away. Once you've done it once, it is simple the next time. I would have to say this is probably the same with any 1999 Honda design. Good luck. Todd
