98 ford e-150, 4.6. 2 coil, waste spark ign. system. history or recurring cylinder specific miss, cyl. 3 & 5 (1/2 of #1 coil). both these fire at the same time. replaced- plugs wires coil pack injectors after replacing the injectors is when this got truly wierd (cue twilight zone music), the miss moved to the other side of the #1 coil, cyls. 1 & 6. anyone ever seen this? it's a new one on me. seems to point to wiring or (gasp) cpu.
I wouldn't suggest cpu yet! How have you verifed that's it and igntion miss and not a miss caused by something else. you say it occurred after you replaced the injectors, maybe something was disturbed leading to a vaccum leak? Pardon me for asking but is the igntion module mountted externally or is it part of the cpu unit iself. If it's like a gm style that the coils bolt to it then it may be bad. some of the older ford had lots of issues with igntion modules, like the 2.3 I think it was Ranger. Where are you purchasing your coils and wires? Are they a good brand?
miss has recurred for ages. ign. is controlled by cpu. no external unit. all replacement parts are accel. appears to be errratic spark but only on that coil pack. other side has never missed in 250K mi.. didn't change to other coil pack circuit until i replaced injectors. i have wiggled all connections there with no results. crank trigger is new. these have been known to crack the trigger wheel but to inspect i need to remove the timing cover. i would think that would affect all ign. circuits.
My own opinion is that Accel is not very reliable, if you swith the coil pack does the miss move? have you verified it is an ignition misfire? if it isnt the coil then maybe the wiring from one side to the other.
