Of all people, even the guy who runs this site gets OBD-II trouble codes now and again!!!

The other weekend I was on the highway and the Service Engine Soon light came on. I scanned the code to find a P0125 Insufficient Coolant Temperature For Closed Loop Fuel Control.

I was driving my 2001 Ford F150 (58K miles on it) on the highway for just over an hour with a very strong side wind. There were no driveability problems, nothing unusual at all. I cleared the code and it didn't return.

I determined that the strong wind caused the problem. You see, the truck's engine is exposed more than a car engine because the truck is higher off the ground, has a bigger grille opening, and the wind was very strong. Oh, and it was below 0 degrees Celsius also. The engine just couldn't get up to operating temperature in time.

FYI. It's been quite a while since I saw the SES light. Hopefully I don't see it again for a long time ;-)

P0125 = check your coolant level and themostat and see what the temperature is on the scan tool and the temp gauge on the vehicle chances that it could be easily be the fact that the coolant could be low or the themostat could be open causing the engine to be running at a too cool of temperature

Yes, could be the combination of a partly stuck open thermostat & a strong freezing wind was enough to keep the block temp below about 150*f. The fact that the code did not return likely means the ECT is O.K. Was the temp gauge looking like it was in the Low range ?

Ya know it's not really necessary to reply anymore... The original thread is almost *3* years old and I don't have the truck anymore. The code did not return.
