I have a 2002 vw passat 2.8l I just bought with a check engine light on. The day I bought it I filled it up with 93 octane and light went off and drove it for 70 miles to my home. It sat 2 weeks then I drove it 8 miles, got up to 72 mph and check engine light came on and flashing and motor died. Had to have it towed. checked for codes and got [P0300][P0301][P0302][P0304]. I then checked coil pack w/ohmeter. 14.8 and 15.9 on all 3 pair which should be good. The fuel injectors were removed and checked with no resistance issues. Car wil not run more than a few seconds and dies after blowing gray smoke. I do know previous owner had timing belt break and replaced all 30 valves. Again car ran fine 10 minutes before with no light on. What should I check that would affect cyclinders 1,2,4 all at once? No other codes other than those mentioned. At this point I wish to fix it and get rid of it. I can't afford to put a lot of money in it so any help would be appreciated. Car has 107,000 miles on it. I'm not sure how to check the vacuum as cars will not run nor am I sure where all the hoses are other than top back of motor. Any thing else I can check? I pretty good with the ohmeter!

Resistance might be good but have you checked both coil packs and wires to see if there are misfires when spraying theses components with water ? I dont mean for you to use a garden hose, just a sprayer with water in it, start car and spray on coils and wires, should see some sparks fly...if not, let me know.
