I have been chasing a problem, finally bought a code reader to help!!!!!!?
first thing was to clean the MAF, thought it may be starving for fuel or a vacuum leak, looked over everything closely but may have missed something though, changed the gas filter, thought that was it but problems started up again. when applying throttle the engine dies out, I was able to move slowly to a safe location.
towed home and it would move but jerkily and at very low throttle, when not in gear I can get up to 4000 rpm then it starts to miss and won't accelerate over the 4000k no mater how much throttle is applied.
Codes show p1131, p1151, p0174, have seen some references to smoke test, how is that done?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Bob

Two things I would check. First is fuel pressure and volume and second is the cam sensor. To check the cam sensor just unplug it and drive it and see if its better. If it is you need to replace the sensor and the syncronizer below it.

fuel pressure regulater will do you no good...... check the pressure first if it is low then the pump is most likely bad...as far as the cam sensor goes it is under the throttle body mounted on top of what looks like half a dist.(this is the syncronizer)

Hi the plug I found under the throttle body made no dif when unplugged, I will try to get a pressure gauge tomorrow and see what that gives me. what kind of readings will I be looking for?
We took a look at some used cars today but I think the prices are just more than I am willing to fork out.
Thanks Bob

bought a pressure meter today but it wont fit onto the schrader(sp) valve because the hose wont bend far enough with the Ford adapter on it. So had to order another part that goes on the ford, The newer Ford must have changed the layout so there is more interference when attaching the meter.

OK, I got the pressure check all set up and the pressure is less than 20 lbs on the gauge, i am thinking that this is to low and is causing my problem. There is a flat round something on the inlet fuel line, can this cause low fuel flow? Don't know what this is, the fuel enters and leaves from the round portion, is this a check valve?
How much fuel should be flowing, gpm, can't find any data on this.
Thanks Bob

Edit
Their is very little change from engine off to engine running.

If you only have 20lbs no need to check volume the pressure is too low.
