Hi all. My wife's car (100k+ miles) is throwing a P0140. This happened a few days ago and it cleared itself (MIL went off). I did not read the code at that time though so, I am only assuming it was that code.

The MIL came on again today and I put on my cheapo scantool and the only code that came up was P0140. Now, assuming that the previous MIL incident was a P0140, that would point to a wiring problem rather than a faulty O2 sensor (since it fixed itself), correct?

We have had mouse problems in the past. We live in the country and the field mice like to climb into warm engine compartments and make themselves comfortable. I am wondering what the chances are of the little buggers chewing threw the harness wires.

I reset the code and it will probably happen again. In your opinions, what would it more likely be - the sensor itself, or the wiring?

Thanks,
psycho

Ah yes, an intermittent problem. I recently had an intermittent p0031 code, it came and went for a few days and then stayed on until I changed the sensor.

My bet would be on the wiring itself. Check out this article for some step-by-step diagnosis tips:

Good luck!
