Here is my problem and it's not one I've read about yet in relation to the P0101 MAF code. The first occurrence of the problem was a stalled engine on the hwy at 70mpg. It would not restart, although was firing and pumping fuel. The codes read at the mechanic were many. P0101 P0107 P0404 P0420 P1107 P1404. He cleared the codes, the vehicle then started fine and he could not recreate the problem.
I took it home and 20 miles later it stalled again while driving 35mph. I did not have a reader, so unplugged and re-inserted a couple of the ECM/PCM fuses and it started fine. I then purchased a reader and in appr 20 miles, while driving 50mpg, it stalled again. The only code was the P0101 code. I cleared it, the car restarted and I was on my way. The CEL never came on during all of this, however it HAD been on prior for a year, due to what I believed was a failing cat converter. That had happened before and I had replaced the CC, but it appeared that the new one was failing prematurely as well. The car idles, starts and runs pretty good otherwise, except I do notice that it seems to take an extra second to fire initially. There are 155K miles on it.
Whether it means anything or not, the reader showed "NOT RDY" (but no error codes) for the following systems - CAT, EVAP, EGR
What I haven't seen in any forum discussions is the symptom that I have of the car stalling and not restarting once this error code is thrown. I do know with certainty that the CIL does NOT come on prior to the car abruptly stalling and failing to restart. Before I replace the MAF, I was hoping for some insight. Thanks

Sounds like the MAF is failing causing the stall. The "not ready" means that those emission monitors have not completed there drive cycle. If you have problems with the erg, evap, or the cat then it may take longer to set because the PCM keeps testing the system and if it fails the PCM will retest it and if it continues to fail it will complete the monitor and turn on the CEL.
Thanks for the replies gentleman. I'm starting to agree that it sounds like the MAF and I will probably take it out one last time to recreate the problem and hopefully just get the P0101 error like the last time. I have read of connector and wiring issues within the connector and tried to wiggle it around, as well as tap on it while running, but no problems...until I disconnected it, which caused it to stall immediately. That was kind of interesting because I was just experimenting, expecting to see the P0101 code but my scanner retrieved zilch on that test. I might try cleaning it first and see what happens before I spring for the $130.00.
