I brought my car to a local repair shop as the check engine light was on. The car was running fine until I turned a corner, the car hesitated, and the check engine light came on. I did not have any other problems with the car ie: no hesitations, stalls, etc., but brought the car in on a Saturday to be looked at as the check engine light was still on (this was three days after light came on). They found codes P0300 & P0305 when they checked for the engine codes. The following Monday morning the repair shop called and stated the engine "blew a rod" during their diagnostics and the engine was destroyed and I would need a new engine.
The reason given was there was coolant in the oil which built up pressure. We had the car towed to a dealership. The dealership did not find any coolant in the engine and said it was caused by a bad coil which the repair shop should have found based on the check engine light codes.
I'm at a loss on who/what to believe. Was it coolant or a bad coil? Can a bad coil cause the engine to "blow a rod"? I'm just at a loss on what to do as I'm being told I need a new engine with quotes of $4500 - $8000. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
