Where did the valve come from? Let me guess AutoZone...Honda sell a kit you get everything you need to do this job right..Think it is around 100.00, at least in the atlanta area, anyway you get a oe valve, a throttle body gasket, and a oversized tube that goes into the hole for the egr passage. You have to remove the upper intake to do this but not hard at all.

Did you remove the intake and clean out the passage? This is the only way to clean it no chemical will clean it out. A valve and port cleaning always fixes this problem on a Honda.

I don't know your experience level but the repair is pretty straight forward...You remove the engine cover and the air filter duct to throttle body. remove the 4 12mm nuts that hold the throttle body to the upper intake (gasket usually does not break but be carefull anyway) you will see a couple of connectors on the back side of the intake and the vacuum hose for the brake booster, disconnect all that, and remove all the 12mm bolts that hold the upper intake to the lower and then lift the intake up and you will see the hose for the pcv still connected to the intake so be carefull not to break it. Once you remove it turn the the intake upside down and you will see, close to where the throttle body mounts, a hole about 3/8 in diameter this is the port you can take a drill bit or a screw driver to clean it out. Be sure once done cleaning you blow the intake out with air to gat all the chunks of carbon out.

Thanks asecmt for your detailed explanation. you are right my experience level is not that high but i like to do as much as possible myself and i also try to learn. i thought by changing the EGR valve will do the trick but it wasn't enough. i bought Haynes Repair Manual a while back that helps me too. that does't say what u described and i really appriceate it. i will do as you said, i know i can do it. as soon as i get some wather like u have in Atlanta. it is verry verry freezing in here in Tononto. thanks again.
