Dear friends,
My father owns a 2002 Grand Cherokee V8 4.7 (70.000 miles) who recently showed the following fault codes:

P0051
P0152
P0155
P0141
P0161

All of them are related to Oxygen sensor and/or oxygen sensor heater. They involve 3 of the 4 sensors the car is equipped with.

In most cases one of the recommended solution for all those faults is a sensor replacement, however before doing that and spending a lot of money I wish to have your opinion.

If the fault involved just 1 single sensor I would have probably replaced it immediately because the sensor or the heater themselves were likely defective.

However, the fact that 3 of them have been in fault at the same time makes me suspect that the sensors are OK while there is “something”, among the components they have in common, that should be the actual reason of this fault.

I can’t believe 3 sensors have the same problem at the same time, I think the problem is originated by some common wire/circuit/don’tknowwhat that does not work properly.

Do you agree with my “theory”? Is it possible that they are OK and I have simply to clean/repair or replace some easy stuff like wires or electrical connections?

What do you think guys?

Please let me know

Cheers

FIlippo

Hi Giuliano,
we decided to go to a mechanic who has a good obd equipment and we explained him our theory. After seeing that the wiring was OK, the response was that one single sensor is faulty while the other two are working properly.
Since one sensor is faulty the emissions the emissions have been altered and therefore the other 2 sensor display a reading that does not fit the standard parameter.

Conclusion: one sensor needs to be replaced, we have just ordered it and we’ll likely do the work shortly. I hope diagnosis is correct otherwise we’ll have to double check again

Hope it helps

Filippo
