Hi, all,

I hooked up a generic OBD-II scanner which gave me the following readout:

"P0401", which I understand means "EGR flow insufficient"
next line read:

"01/01" - What does THAT mean? or, is it just a continuation of the P0401 code?

Any ideas on the location of the EGR, the fix AND especially the meaning of the "01/01"???? :D

I run exclusively on E-85 ethanol.

Thanks for your help on all this.

That should mean code 01 of 01. Your DPFE is probably bad, just in case you did not know.

Make sure you get the DPFE from Ford.

Aftermarket DPFEs do not last very long.

Hi, just to let you know . I had the same code thrown on my 2000 Ford Ranger 3.0L Flex fuel. Come to find out the EGR tube that comes off of the manifold on the drivers side had a crack in it. It was impossible to see and i pressure checkeds it to find the leak. After all i went through to find that maybe you should check yours. Most of your EGR diaphragms and sensors can be cleaned out with carb cleaner... Hope it helps

I received error code P0401 on my 2000 3.0L Ranger right after overfilling the gas tank. Does that make sense?

I posted this answer on the same question on the 99 model but I'll post here too....
I had that same problem and changed the first few things the book and the 'puter told me to...no fix.
So being a poor Texas gal I just left it.....for 3 years. I know, bad girl, bad girl.
Well, I finally changed my unibelt. AFter the oilchange guy had told me 15 times to do so I finally got tired of hearing it...actually I got worried so I did it. Anyway, I OBD-ed and reset the codes about 3 times and TADA!!! Gone. It gave a generic P14000 code two or three times and then it finally quit and hasn't come back.
That may not be your problem but I exchanged several parts and none of them fixed it but this unibelt exchange did the trick. Its worth a shot.
And for future reference: changing that unibelt is a major pain in the rump!!! There's less than no room to work and it took two of us--one under and one practically climbing inside. But its easier if someone is under the truck pulling down on that one pulley on the drivers side.
There may be an easier way but that's the first time I've done that so I don't know it.
