I have replaced the DPFE sensor a couple of months ago. I bought it at Pepboys it cleared the code till a couple of days ago. Last time I got p0402 and a ford specific code that lead to the dpfe sensor. Now it reads just p0402.
I have tested the egr valve with a vacuum pump and the engine bogged down.So the valve is good. The only other thing to test would be the egr valve solenoid. But I don't know how to go about that. If I need to do that at all.
Also in the Chiltons manual it shows only the top of the egr solenoid. There are two things that look like the top of the solenoid. I was wondering where it is located as it gives a very vague description of where it is at. One is located on the drivers side fender wall with two hoses coming off of it. one is a hose that connects right to the underside of the throttle body right before the egr valve. The other is part of the vacuum line.
The other location is behind the ignition coil.
So what I want to know is should I bite the bullet and buy another sensor or is there another problem with the egr system?

p0402 is egr flow excessive i bet if you have a scan tool with data you will see the dpfe voltage at around 4.5 to 5 volts at idle.. aftermarket dpfe sensors are junk! you need to get one from the dealer. dont worry about the other stuff replace the DPFE and all will be well.

Thank you for the reply. I was afraid of that. I cleared that code last week before posting and it has not came back yet. I need to do emissions testing on monday. Will see what happens then.
