Hi Everyone!
I have a 98 Sonoma 2.2 5spd. I've been getting a P0404 codes which is the EGR circuit. I pulled the EGR off to check the solenoid. The first pin(12volt pin) and the last pin had 9 ohms resistance. The second (5volt) pin had no resistance. In fact it showed opened. Checked the connector with the engine running and got 12 volts on the first pin and 5 volts on the second. So I'm kinda thinking my problem is indeed the EGR. My truck has been acting real funny. When driving down the road it will sometimes start jerking. Also when running through the gears I get a surge at about 3800 rpms. It's kinda like there's a little boost in power right there. My fuel milage seems to have fallen off by 2-3 mpgs. I'm gonna get a temperature gun from work and check the temp before and after the cat. converter. Any suggestions and/or help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

Are you sure the pin didn“t showed resistance ?? Are you sure is openned ??
If the wire is opened you might want to first start checking these.

Sorry I've been a way for a while. Been working! Anyway I checked the egr solenoid again. I checked the 12 volt pin to to ground and got 9 ohms. Checked the second pin (5volt) and got an open circuit. No ohms. And to be sure I checked all the pins to ground and only the first one had resistance. So, I figured the egr was bad so I tried putting power to the solenoid. Put power to the 12 volt pin and the solenoid engaged. Put power to the 5volt pin and nothing happened. I had the cat replaced about 5 years and about 100k miles ago. Do ya think it needs replacing?

I also think I have another problem. I'm getting some oil in the air box before the throttle body. The butterfly on the body had a black oily film on it and I could actually see some oil that had run down the inside of the box.

Thanks for the replies and help!
Steve

Ok, at these time the next thing is to change the EGR solenoid, hopefully these would resolve the problem..
Also the oil in the box, sometimes is normal but just a little, but check or replace the PCV valve.
