i purchased a used 1998 integra GS from a dealer less than a month ago and my CEL is already on. From what i have read it's the cat (P0420).

could the dealer have shut this light off pre-sale and it has now come back on, or is it just bad luck on my end?

also, i read on another site that a radiator fluid spill could get in the engine and burn with the oil causing a cat to go bad ... any truth to this? two days after i bought the car a clamp gave way and the radiator hose blew off spewing radiator fluid everywhere.

Thanks in advance for any help.

It's possible the MAY have been reset...a good scanner will be able to detect the last time the codes were erased. However, bear in mind that the car is 10 years old.

A normal spill (like a hose blowing) will not damage the engine unless the car overheats.

I would determine the last time the codes were reset (from a 3rd party mechanic) and take it back to the dealer.

If the dealer is reputable, he may come good for the repair.
