I have replaced the #1 plug with the GM (now) OE iridium spark plug;
I have replaced #1 wire with a new Delco wire (ordered individually from Chevy dealer);
and I have replaced the 1/4 coil with a new aftermarket Duralast coil from Auto Zone.

The car is still misfiring badly. Replacing the wire made it worse and the coil moderated? it.

I know that I am at the point where everything is either expensive, difficult, or both and $$$ is extremely tight. I was trying to get out of this as cheaply as reasonably possible.

The car has almost 70K miles on it and the other two coils and 5 wires are still original, for now. If the misfire is coming off another cylinder, why still the P0301 code? I assumed #1 since that is what the code calls for.

I have done some online research on this 2000 LeSabre issue online and am perplexed as where to go next. I admit probabily professional diagnosis might be best, but I do not wish to spend $100 - $200US to determine that a $50 part is fritzing out. I do not have an ohnmeter/multimeter or code scanner (I can go to Auto Zone for the code scan).

A side note is that about a month ago a piece of a Hefty trash bag got stuck onto the bottom of the cat, pulled it off, stinks like well, you know. Before my roommate and I drove the car, it was driven very little prior. She swears she can feel the miss underneath the seat, which is about where the cat is located. I could feel this before I changed the coil today.

Which direction do I head in and why? Thanks!

could still be the ignition module that the coil bolts too, wiring, injector is a good possibilty. Changing one plug and wire on a ignition system like that is pointless. Do it all or get it professionally diagged. You're going to have to commit to something. more shotgun parts approach or professional help. Neither is free.!

Try to check the armonic balancer

IT IS the one that is attached in the cranckshaft pulley. Check if there is no dammaged wire in the sensors that are inside the pulley, check the pulley and armonic balancer for proper operation.
Also check the cylinder # 1 injector for proper operation.

The car had a random no start problem about a week and a half ago; I undid the neg (-) cable on the battery to clear out the BCM and ECM. I also opened the fuse box under the hood and tightened down the two inside bolts after making sure all the fuses were secure in their slots. Car starts, and the SES light has not come back on :mrgreen: (Thank God; gas is $4+ here :twisted: !).

Is it possible that the underhood fuse box is grounded to the body somehow? (Suddenly the ABS/brake light combo stays off i/s/o flickering on/off with annoying bells, and the cruise mysteriously starts to work again :mrgreen: ).

Hopefully the demons will not come back! ($$$ is tight :evil: ).

P.S.: I have not done anything to the car since I have posted. Cars can be so expensive so I certainly do not want to spend money where it is not needed. . .

It does seem random that I may have stumbled into the problem. . . I do not have a diagram showing the electrical wiring of this vehicle.
