I have a 2002 PT Cruiser and it started idling rough. I had the obd code 0172 and I was told that the problem was the oxygen sensor in bank 1, so I replaced the sensor, the spark plugs and the wires, the pcv valve, fuel injectors, air filter to no avail. I cleaned the trottle flaps. Can anyone assist me with this issue. thanks in advance.

The PT Cruiser is the basic model. The timing belt was replaced last october because the delaer said it was time to replace it. The egr was already ruled out as a cause. I noticed that when the car is cold and you try to put gas is like is chocking with the amount or lack of gas so I have to press the gas pedal to the floor and ease on the clutch until it returns to normal. Any other suggestions. Again thanks in advance

Like Jeff said Answer his Question ?. That way we can help you better
A P0172 does not necessary mean the O2sensor is bad the following problems/condition will give this code as well.
A P0172 means your cruiser is running rich
Possible Causes
1 Intermittent Condition
2 O2 Sensor Heater Operation
3 O2 Sensor
4 EVAP Purge Solenoid Operation
5 O2 Sensor Signal Circuit Shorted To Voltage
6 O2 Sensor Signal Circuit Open
7 Throttle Position Sensor Voltage Greater Than 0.92 Volt With Throttle Closed
8 TP Sensor Sweep
9 MAP Sensor Operation
10 ECT Sensor Operation Engine Mechanical Problem
11 Fuel Filter/Pressure Regulator (High)
12 PCM

The fuel pressure was checked and was told that the pressure is normal. Timing on track. Another thing I have noticed lately is that when the car is warming up, it smells like rotten eggs. I checked to see if the car has a fuel filter and was told that there is no fuel filter or MAP either.

Well there wrong about the map sensor for one but if you're going to choose to ignore our suggestions then We're going to ignore your posts. Im not asking about the 02 sensor brand for my own curiousity. It smells like sulphur because it's too rich! If your expert that you're asking about this car is too stupid to know that it has a map sensor then I'd start over with a better tech somewhere. I'd question his accuracy for the egr and fuel pressure diagnosis at this point if they're that clueless!
