My check engine light has come on in the past, and was always resolved by tighening the gas cap cover and ensuring there was a semi-full tank of gas. This has happened several times in the past six years and I've always been able to resolve it by tightening the gas cap.
Recently, the check engine light has come on again, and has been on permanently for two weeks...gas cap cover method now not working so good. I had the code read and it's a P0440...Emission System. Before I take it to a mechanic, I would like to give the Emisison system a once over, checking hoses and seleniod (not sure if that is spelled correctly)connection. Being female, I am sometimes taken advantage of when walking into a garage; but being Military I want to gain the knowledge to conduct inspection myself to see if I can resolve it (or at least have enough knowledge to inform the mechanic what I beleive the problem may be). That way I won't seem completely oblivious to my mechanical issue.
Having said that I need to know where these hoses and selenoid are located...Can anyone give me a quick and dirty on where and what to for?
