2003 Dodge Ram 1500 3.7L auto, 100+K miles.

Codes pulled (listed in order as witnessed on gauge):
P0340 : Camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction
P0320: Ignition / distributor engine speed circuit malfunction
P0700: Transmission control system malfunction.

This is the first time I pulled the codes on this truck but I suspect that the codes showed up just recently with the check engine light. Have had no problems with the truck since 12000 miles when purchased until today except for a faulty (loose) postive battery connection found recently but not corrected properly yet.

My wife was driving the truck today and all was fine, then just stalled. It started back up but ran rough and had reduced power. Check engine light on. All gauges read normal so limped the truck home. Stalled a few more times on the way home. When I got home, started the truck and ran fine until it warmed up, then the same symptoms.

From past experience, inconsistent battery voltage will make the computer act strangely or not allow the motor to run at all.

It seems strange to me that 3 seemingly different systems broke at the same time. I suspect that the bad positive battery connection caused these codes. It was dark when I got home from work so I was unable to check under the hood for any noticable defective connections.

Tomorrow I plan to clean the battery terminals and correct the positive terminal issue and look for any other visible connection issues and reset the computer. I think this will fix the problem.

Am I on the right track or is there something else more serious going on?

TIA

Hi

Well.... I'm not sure if having bad battery conection could cause a transmission code and only few faulty codes... I think also you are having more than only a bad battery connection.. You should also check all the fuses and is not a bad idea to check if you are not having a loosen or broken wire someplace in the engine near to the distribuitor..

Keep posted

Thanks for the response. I will look for those loose or broken wires tonight. I will post back what I find.

I replaced the camshaft position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor. The truck runs fine now. Got the codes cleared but the check engine light would not go out. Cleared with code scanner. On the way back from the parts store, the check engine light went out. Runs fine, shifts fine, speedo works fine. But upon checking the codes with the key switch, I got P0700 again. The code scanner pulled up P0725 and p0846. These were not on before. Seems strange that all of a sudden all these sensors start going. Possibly relanted but most likely not, repaired 2 vacuum leaks 1 under the truck for EVAP system and 1 under the hood. Please help. I do not want to spend money at the transmission shop unless I have to.
