Can anyone help? got this code p0134 O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity... I guess I need to check the circuit first and then replacing the sensor?

Can I do this DIY? I have some electrical engineering background and some very limited experience with cars (like oil, air filter, and spark plug change)... I am really reluctant to send this to dealer b/c i got burned by them twice already...

Thanks!

Everybody's skill set is different but heck If you're an electrical engineer then surely you're more educated then those dealer mechanics that have burned you twice already right! I mean come on it's only an 02 sensor circuit right, it's not computer programming or anything like that!

Usually that code pops up when your o2 sensor isn't switching or not enough. If money's an object or you're not familiar with the system, then replacing the sensor may fix it.

Thank you guys! I'll take a stab at it this time. It wasn't until the dealership charged me $200 for a CEL caused by a bad spark plug wire that i realized i couldn't trust those guys...

One more question -- should I buy the o2 sensor from the dealer or a generic one like Bosch will work?

You don't necessarily need to purchase from the dealer. Bosch are very high quality components and as long as they are a direct replacement(i.e. don't require any wiring) they'll do fine. Often times the OE sensors are manufactured by the same aftermarket companies.

So 200 dollars isn't a fair price for expertise combined with an effective repair! I mean if you need them the to tell you that a plug wire was bad what would have been a fair price or would any price have been 2 much?
Does the 200 dollars include the new part and the install of it?

Yeah, we seem to get alot of complaints from customers about the high cost of repair. I just received the hospital bill for my broken hand and the bill AFTER INSURANCE COVERAGE was over 4 thousand bucks. That doesn't even include the ER visit or the hospital stay. OUCH! So, it's expensive, but that's what it costs for automotive repair.

OK. I guess I shouldn't have complained the cost is too high, if I have the dealship do the job. My problem with them is that twice I went there for repairs under warranty but was forced to pay for other things.

anyway, i'll let you know how this goes.
