Hi, everyone. First time here, and I think I'm going to learn a lot. :)

I've got a 2003 Chrysler T&C with a 3.3L V6 and 111,800 miles. I just had the oil changed yesterday, and it's giving me codes P1684 (which I know is the battery disconnect...not a problem) and P0340.

Nothing against the shops, but I don't have the money to bring my van in. I'm betting it would be at least $400 to do the diagnostic and to fix the problem, after parts, labour, and fees. If possible, I'd like to do it myself.

The thing is, I don't really know where to look (I'm not a "car guy" by nature). Are the cam and crankshaft sensors something that I can access and replace relatively easily?

Is there any way to determine exactly which it is? I'd hate to spend $60 on the camshaft position sensor only to find that I have to spend another $30 on the crankshaft position sensor. Not trying to sound like a cheapskate, but I don't want to spend money unnecessarily.

Thanks in advance for the help!

This is a website for car people, it's a site to help those that wish to attempt to repair there vehicles themselves or at least understand the complex systems under the hoods of there vehicles and make informed decisions! your assumption that it's going to cost 400 dollars is ignorant and uninformed. If you're not a car guy then it's unlikely your tooled up to replace the sensors let alone troubleshoot them so either drive it as is or bite the bullet and pay a pro to repair it! whining about costs is not enocuraged here or what this site is about. Instead of posting foolish statements like you did take the forums as free advice and check for your code under caravans! it's in there! then take that advice and attempt it as a repair or be more educated and informed then you were before about what the code might require to repair and go seek a pro! You may not be a cheapskate but you're not very polite about how you go looking for help!
A few thousand dollars would tool you up with a scope to verify which in fact is the faulty sensor and then you'd know for sure without going to see one of those darn shops you seem to wish to avoid! The likely repair for your van will cost less then 400 bucks!

PM sent.

Anyone else want to chime in? Please leave the condescending attitudes behind, as I get enough of those during my day without any help here.

I've done my research, and $4-500 seems to be what other people with similar problems are being quoted. I think it's fair for me to be concerned about money. But it looks like my options are take it in or drive it as is. Correct?

You may want to buy a service manual and familiarize yourself with its systems...it may be just a wire/connection disturbed during the oil change.

At the very least, you'll be able to determine whether you can repair it yourself.
