i have a 96 impala ss with approx. 116k miles its showing codes p0410 and p0420. are these two codes related? can they be caused by the same problem? doing some research i have found that it can either be an o2 sensor or the cat converter. does anyone know which one it may probably be? how can i test each one to find the specific problem(please be specific, cause i have no idea what i am doing)? how much would a mechanic charge for a new cat?
thanks[/b]
410 and 420 are poor catalyst efficiency on both banks of your engine. Its unlikely to be o2 sensors. Your cats are not working properly. Note: lean running engine, or rich engine, or engine miss, and aftermaket tuner parts that modify fuel system can ruin a catalytic converter.
