Hello,
I have a 2001 ford taurus and my check engine light turns on periodically with the p0442 error code.
I had a private shop look at the car and they can't find the small fuel system leak, even after pressurizing the system. They told me the gas tank and filler neck is rusty(lots of salt in the winter). There only suggestion that has worked for previous customers is to replace the gas tank and filler neck. Is there any other suggestions out there?
The light comes on at varying times for no reason! It could be 1 day or 3 months. I just happen to be driving around and on pops the light. Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Mark

try another shop! with a smoke machjine and a good quality scanner it's not hard to pinpont the leak and repair it! If they can't find it it's because they aren't equipped properly or they don't know how and where to look!

Any leak in the fuel tank(including filler neck) could be the cause, but, like Comp, I'd want a more knowlegable shop to check it out.
