I'm getting a PO135 indicating an upstream heated O2 Sensor heater circuit fault (bank 1). I asked the Mitsu service guy which was Bank 1, and he said front of car. Replaced the front upstream O2 sensor with a new Bosch, and cleared the codes. The Check Engine light stays off for one start, run and shut down, but comes back on the 2nd time it is started. Question: is bank one front of car?
On the Montero 3.5 Liter Engine, the BANK 1 (Which on ALL motors) is the side with #1 Cylinder. The key to figure out which is Cylinder #1 is also simple. Look at the Motor, you will discover that one Valve Cover (which Covers the Head) is further Forward (Staggered) than the other. The Cylinder which is further Forward is #1 Cylinder and Therefore BANK #1.
I am having the same exact problem. i have tried replacing the sensor twice in the same 1-1 bank that is facing the front of the vehicle. What gets me though, is it was working great for a week and I was getting great gas mileage again. Now I am back to square one having to pay through the nose.
i think it is a wiring problem. BTW I own a 2000 Eclipse 3.0 V6.
