I took my Lexus to the local parts store when the check engine light came on. They checked it with a small Actron tester and found an oxygen sensor to be bad. I replaced the sensor and the check engine light with out ok. The problem is that during the process of checking with the Actron unit, the Vehicle Skid Control (VSC) system turned off and could not be engaged. The car then went to the Lexus garage where they cleared the VSC problem and found at least 6 other faults were found which they attirbuted to the check performed by the parts store. And they said the problem was not unusual. Does any else have experience with faults caused by simply checking? Do any of the OBD II testers reasonably priced for DIY's on the market today provide the ability to reset the VSC (should it occur again)
doubtful, most of the other systems on higher end vehicles like lexus, systems like abs, airbag etc, communicate on a different "bus line" then the pcm so some aftermarket tools can access the engine controller and clear the codes but in the process they may log faults with other modules in the car that see the communication between them be lost if even temporarily. Higher end makes are normally best left to the dealer for repairs for reasons just like that one.
