Hi, I have been driving an '81 Bronco for the last 25 years, and am now getting my feet wet on the newer stuff with computer everything.
I just bought a week ago, a '96 Explorer with 99000 honest miles on it. (At least I think it's honest) 5.0 V8 auto OD xmission This truck is in great shape except the ''check engine'' light keeps coming back on after I turn it off with the scanner.
Code reads; PO 340; "Cam Position A circuit Bank 1 sensor" 0402: "EGR flow excessive." Since I am new at this I am proceeding slowly so I don't create more problems than I already have. I have a Haynes manual but I'm still not sure where to find the EGR valve or pfe sensor as it shows pictures of smaller engines.
Any help with component location and/or diagnosis repair suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Also the odometer/tripmeter quit working yesterday. MPH still works but that is another story. (The truck runs and drives good)
Thanks
George

you need a subscription to alldata for the parts locator and then likely a dpfe and or a throttle body service and a possible problem with the cam sensor!
