Hello,

I've got an active check engine light with code PO456. Where should I start? I'm in California and was also wondering if the Evap. system is under an extended Federal warranty? If, so, I'll just take it to the dealer. If not, where should I start? I'm a heavy diesel bus tech., so I'm not afraid of some work if it is feasable.

doubt it's till under federal emissions warranty, maybe the gas cap but it's often just a split hose, check the other posts on this forum for where to look and follow the vaccum hose diagram under the hood!

You were right, Jeff. The '02 Grand Caravan is out of Federal extended warranty for the evap. system. I installed a new gas cap just for the heck of it since it is a high-use part. After I installed it, I crawled under the van and started inspecting evap hoses per the diagram under the hood. Sure enough, the hose between the foreward and rear vapor canisters is cracked on both sides of the hose. I looked over all the others with a flashlight and they all looked OK. So its back to the dealer for a new molded hose. We've really babied this van since new and I'm a little surprised that hose looks the way it does. I guess the gas vapors dry them out. I'll keep you posted of the outcome. Zero codes I hope.

the hose here costs I think less then 20 bucks and I change about 2 of them a week. The evap hoses dry out really prematurely now for some reason, I think because of increased use of the evao emissions system every year the hoses are exposed to more vapours and therefore more chemicals that break the rubber down!

I picked up the hose here today, (slightly molded, about 5/8" diameter X 8"long), it was $4.50 with tax U.S. I'll be a happy camper if this is the end of it for now. I never look at these nit-picky problems with too much contempt, they keep me sharp for the next one. Thanks again.

Hiya, got a question regarding this code. My mom is having this issue with her 2002 Grand Caravan. It actually coughed up P0442, P0455, and P0456. I'm going to head over there later and check the hoses for her. Can anyone tell me where the canisters are located on this vehicle? Also, is there a trick to show the codes on the odometer, or do I need a real scanner?

Thanks!
