2000 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.1

Got an error code for the O2 sensor so replaced the sensor before the converter...reset and SES Light went out on dash for 2 days and came back on. Ran another Diagnostic and got the PO140 code so replaced the other O2 sensor...reset and light went out for about 4 hours and is back on again. Read the codes again and its still throwing the P0140 code.

We'll be checking the wiring harness tomorrow and fuses tomorrow...anyone have any other thoughts as to why this keeps coming up?

Code P0140 indicates something wrong with the air pump and/or SAS valve according to my investigations. This system pumps air into the exhaust to burn up hydrocarbons and improve emissions. PCM turns on the air pump momentarily during this test and checks for a leaner exhaust using the O2 sensors. If the exhaust does not go leaner the PCM puts up a Code P0140. The Air pump might fill with water backing up from the exhaust if the SAS valve is stuck open and it could ruin the air pump too. Check air pump and SAS valve.

No, P0140 refers to Bank 1 sensor 2 Oxygen sensor showing insufficient activity. AKA "lazy". The biggest problemis usually the driver replacing the wrong sensor. Bank 1 refers to the side that contains cylinder #1. Sensor 2 is the rearmost sensor AFTER the cat. Insufficient activity usually means, a bad sensor(provided the wiring is okay). Check and make sure you've replaced the correct one. There are four on that vehicle.
