First off im not mechanic..... So my girlfriends car (98' Pontiac Grand Am GT 2.4 4cyl DOHC) had the check engine light, so I get the code reader and it throws two codes, P0113 IAT Sensor 1 Circuit High Input, and P0118 Engine Coolant Temp Circuit high Input. I dont get it, is all she needs is a new Intake Air Temp sensor and a new Coolant Temp sensor? I asked my friend who is almost done with wyotech and hes telling to get this thing and measure the resistance and bla bla bla, I dont know what the hell he was talking about :D So she was complaining about the light so I erased it. Now the car takes a while to turn over, and when it finally does turn over it starts to smoke real bad, you can tell the car is running REAL rich. On top of that the idle is all fucked up, then the temp sensor goes up out of nowhere then drops back down. After a few mins it stops smoking and seems to be normal again? The check engine light is back on, but im not messing with that POS anymore

Jeff,

Thanks for the effort. The site you sent me to was very overwhelming. I wasn't sure if I was to purch a subscription or what. I'll go back in a bit, but the following part was what I purchased.

how is that part supposed to fix an 02 sesnor code? Do you mean the codes are there since you installed it?

To answer your question... Yes.

The code might've been a problem but the cause for the aggravated start all began with my bungled installation of the cold air intake elbow that I purchased from Summit Racing.com . I had broken one of the wiring connects off of the distributor that I should've removed prior to the installation of the elbow and that might've been responsible for the code. I need to replace the wiring connect that plugs into the distributor cap, clean out the connection area and reset the computer to see if that is in fact the cause.

Thanks,

Jay K.
