Hi all,

I keep getting a P0401 code, "EGR Insufficient Flow". I have cleaned out the EGR valve, and found no gunge just a thin film of carbon.

With the engine warm and on tickover, there is a constant strong vacuum from the vacuum pipe, but I am unable to suck hard enough to show any change in the engine revs. Is this normal, or is the valve stuck? Should I be able to move the valve manually?

My car has a combined Pierburg EGR Valve / sensor such as on the VW range eg Golf / Bora, so is not cheap.

Please advise before I buy a new EGR valve!

Are you using a vaccum pump or sucking on it just by mouth, try a pump if you have one. @ idle you should be able to stall the engine out after applying around 10-15 pds of vaccum. If not then the pintle is probaly seized. I'm not too familiar with vw etc. good luck
