I have posted about my problem in the codes forum and have received enough good advice to come up with a game plan of fixes. First is my EGR valve. I was about to remove it to clean it along with the ports going into the intake. When I pulled the top vacuum line from the egr it poured out anti-freeze. Is this normal?

I doubt it! is there anymore in the intake? you have likely found the cause of most if not all your codes!

Jeff,
The anti-freeze came from the line that runs from the bottom of the throttle body. Do you think maybe it just by-passes thru the egr but not the vale itself? I think that the antifreeze by-passes thru the throttle body to heat up the gas. Am I crazy or does that sound right? If not do you think that the antifreeze in the egr is caused by a leak?

Some manufacturers pipe coolant through the throttle body to help it heat up faster but as for whether or not that means it's leaking because some found it's way into the vaccum line is hard for me to speculate from here! I'd get it checked by someone familiar with Mazda's at this point! I'd hope not because I'd imagine a throttle body would be quite expensive for one!

Jeff,

Just wanted to let you know that coolant lines do run to the EGR valve on these Mazdas. For what I'm not sure. It took me an hour just to get the EGR loose. It is in a killer spot.

so the coolant in the vaccum line is considered normal then?

No, the info I gave you is wrong. The EGR valve has two lines coming into it. Both are coolant lines. It doesn't have a vacuum line running to it. I have researched other places and got the advice to remove throttle body and clean the port going to the EGR. My code read that I was getting insufficient flow. I guess these cars are bad about clogging up with carbon in the EGR ports. I haven't tried this yet. There is no doubt I need to do it, but considering you seem to be more knowledgeable about this, do you think this could be cause it to misfire on two cylinders?

It's possible or like I said somewhere else it wouldn't be the first Mazda I saw with both a failled Egr and a vaccum leak from the intake but I still say repair the Egr issue first and then see what if any codes return!
