:?: I have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma, 2.7 4cly manual trans pickup. I had a couple codes: p0420 and P0402.

Replacing the cats' seems to have fixed the P0420 issue.

For the P0402 EGR flow error Toyota planned to replace the EGR and EGR module. I had the EGR and EGR modul replaced but I am still getting the P0402 code/engine light.

I noticed that the OBD suggests replacing the DPFE sensor but I am not sure if the Tacoma has one. Does anyone know? Any suggestions as to what else may be causing the EGR code to keep poping up?

This error seem to set off the check engine light after ignition, note: not the first time starting the enginge after resetting the code but shortly there after.

If the code resets that quickly, then there is a hard fault. A shorted, open wire somewhere on the EGR command circuit, most likely.

if you apply vaccum to the egr does the engine stall? if it doesn't then you still have a flow probelm, if it stalls then it likely is a solenoid command circuit problem!

It will stay out for a while, 60 or 70 miles. I notice it comes on after starting the truck, not after I've been driving for a while.

I'm going to change the EGR pressure switch (VSV). (Already replaced the EGR value and EGR module as diagnosed by Toyota).

If that does not work, it's going to a 3rd part auto machanic.

Well, you can start off by being more careful in your original post. By your wording it sounds as if the code resets shortly after the first ignition cycle. 70 miles of driving isn't "shortly thereafter".
So, based on the "new" information (i.e. accurate information) I'd abridge my statement and go with what COMP said.
It's likely to be a flow issue rather than a hard fault. But, given the original information you gave us, I'd still go with what I said first.
